The whole reason why I am able to write about this topic so much is because I am so absent minded.

Two days ago I was at the gym and I forgot my Philips headphones with the neckband on a workout bench.

The following day when I went to get them they were, of course, gone.

I actually had found this pair to be mediocre at first but I had grown to like them.

You would think I would have been angry.

Quite the contrary.

This has happened some many times I just said to myself “I guess I have a reason to make another post on my blog.”

So I go to Best Buy and look for some headphones to run with that I have never tried before. I figured it wouldn’t be too long before I loose whatever pair I bought so I did not want them to cost over $25.

There were a few choices to choose from but I ended up settling on the JVC HA-EBX85-A in-ear clip Headphones.

I was talking about which headphones not to get in a previous post and canal phones were one of them but these were the only ones that were in my price range so I bought them. I broke my own rule but the $19.95 price tag was too good to pass up.

These headphones are supposed to be “ideal for exercise and fitness activities, as they remain secure and comfortable even when working up a sweat.”

So after a week of using them here is the review of these JVC HA-EBX85 model.

They did not fall out. The left and right ear clip is sort of flimsy and hard to get in and secure to your ear but once you get them in they do not come out.

They do not have the most comfortable feeling to them (though not the worst).

The sound quality is average.

I can already tell you that this model is not going to be particularly durable.

On average though, when you factor in that 19.95 price, I would give them a 6 out of a possible 10.

You can get better headphones but I have found that for canal phones, and for the price, they give you their value.

I went the official JVC website and found that you can in fact order the HA-EBX85s online, along with a lot of their other merchandise, although this would be a complete waste of time since you can get them at your nearby Best Buy, or local retail, for the exact same price without paying the shipping.

When it comes to headphones I would highly recommend that you avoid any form of earbuds or canal phones.

They are by far always way more trouble than any benefit they give.

These are the ones that you place directly outside your ear, separately, with fully enveloping it.

They are what you will find at most stores now.

I have been seeing the headphones with the actual headband become less and less common.

The ones without the headband just fall out too much. It can be highly distracting and bothersome to have to keep putting and readjusting those little ear pieces back in your ear ever couple minutes with you are running or jogging. You want to put them in once and leave them there.

I cannot tell you how many times I have been on the treadmill at the gym or hiking up Flattop and I have had those earbuds fall out of my ear. Its not worth it at all. The apple earbuds and Nike earbuds were especially bad and I could never get them to stay in at all!

So what type of headphones do I look for when I am running?

Several things make any headphones you are doing physical activity with good. I like the wrap around headphones the best. I think that sometimes they can get a little uncomfortable but they stay on. I like them to be a lightweight but not too lightweight because I have found that they will flop back and forth if they are.

You also want some that will cancel out the surrounding noise as much as possible. You do not want to hear a lot of other music around you neither the sounds of all the treadmill fitness equipment at the gym. Its distracting.

I really would not spend anymore than $20 on any pair of sport headphones. Its not worth it. I have bought headphones that were $40 and $50 and I either lost them, had them stolen, or broke them.

Headphones are very fragile and the life expectancy of them is low. You can rip them, sit on them, break them, and its very easy to do all those things. Go with a good pair and be ready to replace them every couple months.

When I am running or hiking or climbing mountains I find that the majority of the headphones that are supposedly marketed for sports do not cut it.

The earplugs pop out, the cord gets tangled up with my arm, or the headband becomes really annoying. A lot of the time I get so frustrated I just take them out and continue running without them on.

I’ve been looking for some upgrades and I think I found them.

I recently saw a friend of mine wearing some wireless headphones the other day so I got some of my own. When I went to buy them I noticed that the major brands that make wireless headphones, Logitech, Sennheiser, Sony, and Philips, make them in two styles though these two styles can vary in price between $40 all the way to $210. They come in the a) in the ear design with supports and b) behind the neck band. Personally as annoying as the neck band can get when you are running a lot I like the fact that they stay in better and don’t pop out. I got the Logitech Freepluse Wireless ones because they were about $75 (middles of the road as far as price), have a behind the neck band, and had a band that looked pretty durable so it would not snap (very important as I have broken two of the least four headphones I have bought in the last couple months).

I have been pretty pleased with it. The device is lightweight so I don’t feel my ears being weighted down as in the past with other headphones using neckbands. The volume adjuster is on the right headphone and is easy to use without any trouble at all. The noise canceling was not that great as I could still hear the gym radio playing the new song by Britney Spears. The sound quality was average but like I said I got the middle priced headphone and to get top sound quality for these things you are going to have to spend at least $100. The range was not too bad either. I put my blue tooth transmitter about 15 feet away on a table and I had no problems. I have not tested it further than that so I do not really know how far it goes. It say that it delivers clear, interference-free audio with range of up to 33 feet but I doubt the sound quality is that great past twenty. Overall I liked it.

I am thinking about taking mine back though and getting a more expensive model that is even more lightweight and more importantly cancels the surrounding noise out better. Its can get a little bothersome hearing your music and the music being played in the gym at the same time. Other than that I have no complaints.

When buying sport headphones I was under the impression months ago that Nike would natural make the best ones. Why do you think I thought that? Well Nike does lead the world in sport apparel so natural they would be the top candidate for headphones made especially for running.

Boy was I wrong.

Nike makes the worst sport headphones that I can think of. I have not been impressed by any of their models at all. They have been no better in my opinion that Phillips headphones just have costs more. I have already mentioned three Nike headphones models but I happened across several others today, bought them, simulated running with them, and here are the results. There were three more than I tried.

The Nike Pursue sport headphones were the first ones that I tested. They basically two black sweat resistant rubber silicon ear pads that are connected by a thin cord that fits snugly or supposed to fit snugly in both ears. They retail for $29.99 at Fred Myers. I was not impressed. The are virtually just like Philips headphones , mainly the SHS3201 model that sells for 9.99, except because they are “Nike” they sell for twenty dollars more. The are cheaply made and the sound quality sucks.

The Nike Vapor was not any better. The only difference with them is that they feature adjustable ear sets. WOW! They retail for $24.99 at Fred Myer. Wal Mart may be a little less.

The Nike Flow Sport Headphones were pathetic. I mean they were horrible. For $40 you would think that I could get a little bit more value. They come with a protective storage pouch and cable wire that’s supposed to be lightweight. The ear plugs were falling out all the time.

The best Nike sport headphones that I found were the Nike Aero sport headphones. This is why…

I know that the two separate ear pieces look really cool and comfortable. But they are not. They fall out. The best headphones for running are the old style ones with the bendable headband. As long as they are lightweight you are not going to even know they are on your head. They keep both ear pieces at the same level and steady. They are by far the best. Both Philips and Nike keep attempting these new age sport headphones and gee wiz they suck. They look “high tech” but its all show. They are flimsy and fall out your ear when you are running. Stick with what works. Thats my advice.

I have had several pairs of Nike sport headphones. I have purchased the Nike Motion first and then the Nike Flight.

I got both of them at Best Buy for around $25.

These headphones each come in way too much plastic packaging by the way. What a waste? We are tearing up our planet for no reason. The reason why I bring this up is because when you want to open the packaging to get them out you have to go through like three layers of utterly useless packaging.

Anywhere here is the verdict on them….they suck! I will stick with Phillips from now on or at least for the time being until I find some better ones. For the money they are not worth it and you can buy other sport headphones that are built better and are more comfortable.

It was ridiculous from the start how flimsy these headphones really were. My Nike Motions’ broke within two days. The wire came off and speaker came out, you name it. They were really cheaply made. Good thing Best Buy has a great return policy. They never asked any questions and promptly either exchanged my purchase or gave me a complete refund.

Next these headphones were extremely uncomfortable. They hurt and irritated the hell out of me after ten minutes of running. They were not pleasant at all to use. If I were anyone I would steer clear of these.

I thought that Nike would make the best but boy was I wrong. The company makes some other great items but these are not one of them. When it comes to Nike I think I will just stick with shoes. Maybe a shirt. But as far as getting running sport headphones I will stick with others.

Recently I bought a pair of Philips sport headphones from Best Buy. They are the Extra bass neckband headphones model SHS3910.

Frankly I have bought several headsets in the last several months because I lose them all the time and wanted to get the cheapest set I could find.

These were not the cheapest but they came close.

I was able to get these sport headphones for $15.99. We do not have a sales tax up here so it was nice not having to pay that.

These headphones are supposed to work fine on MP3s, iPods, and CD applications. It says that it has 32mm Neodymium speakerdrivers for superb sound quality, bass beat for excellent sound, and ergonomic ear-cushions to ensure an ergonomic preformed comfortable fit. It has a 3.5 mm stereo plug and comes with 4 ft of cable length.

Listen I do not know half of what they are saying on the headphone packaging. It all sounds like crap if you ask me. I found them to be mediocre.

If you are looking for sport headsets I actually think these can get annoying. The two speakers are connected by a plastic handle that is made to fit around the back of your neck. Its irritating. Not to the extent of some others, mind you, but irritating nonetheless. The sound is alright but sub par. I was listening to the NCAA championship game between Duke and Villanova and I couldn’t hear the action going on over my treadmill like I wanted to. Again, it was not bad but not the best.

Overall I give these headphones a 5. You get what you pay for. For a cheap set of sport headphones I would say you get your fair value. Nothing more and nothing less. In the next article we will talk about bluetooth headphones

But that’s where the problem lies. There are countless ways to market sports headsets .

This is a secret. I found sports headsets on sale.

You and you alone are responsible for the way that your sports headsets operates. This is very easy to do. Do you want to have pleasure?.

In my experience, it’s worth it. I want to avoid feeling shaky. This would be a great idea for sports headsets. This is a fast growing market.

I want to feel popular. I had accepted that I would like to bellow more loudly about sports headsets.

It has some raving fans. Here’s a small sample. They told me that the orders keep pouring in. There are a wide range of conjectures on this hypothesis.

It is a very good thing to organize yourself but i don’t really do it.

It was only of limited availability. Nevertheless, it sold well. This is my last point, maybe. What would happen if you combined both of these powerful ideas?.

This is a disturbing development.

That is why people now realize the need for sports headsets. Sports headsets the coolest part of it.

Usually, people get sports headsets that way. You should be daring and creative. Which really leads me to the only thing that really matters. The media doesn’t understand sport headphones.

I wouldn’t want you to forget the that reflect the truth of the matter about sports headsets. I’m going to get a bit inventive here. OK, I get it.

Practice what you preach. Wait to you see what I have in store for you. When…?. Everyone is joining in.

I had predicted that I should not provide a more focused view.

The best of friends must part.

As an expert in sports headsets, what I have is a detest about it.
